Sophia Lee: Multimedia Artist
Today, I’m featuring Sophia Lee, a multimedia artist that I discovered through the ArtSpan website. She cares deeply about the environment and our impact on it, but you might not realize that at first glance. Her site illustrates how even a short description can help your audience connect with your work in a more meaningful way.
In my Portfolio Writing Workbook, I share tips to help artists and designers write about their work in a way that connects with their audience. One tip is to consider the questions that your audience might have when they look at your work. This can guide you in writing powerful descriptions like Sophia’s.
In this post, I’ve shared three series from her site. Notice the way she uses language to draw the reader into a more personal experience of her work. It makes a huge difference!
In Remnant of Ashen Bloom, Sophia talks about the impact of fire season and the loss of trees all along the West Coast. My perspective on this series totally changed after reading about her intentions for the series and what it means to her.
Luminous Space is another example of how even a few sentences can be enough to pull in your reader and get them to relate to your work in a more personal way.
Seams of the Fog is the series that first drew me to Sophia’s work and it evokes images of what we can glimpse through the fog or beneath the surface of our environment.
What stood out for you during my 30-second scroll? Which of Sophia’s series was your favorite? Please share your thoughts in the comments!
