Tony Mayer: Graphic Designer
Today’s 30-Second Scroll features Tony Mayer. He’s a graphic designer who I discovered when I googled “best graphic design portfolios.” I think his site deserves that title, and here’s why…
First, Tony’s site is really fun and delightful to experience. His layout is the perfect balance of text, images, and animation. All the elements work together beautifully to guide the visitor through each page in an easy, enjoyable way. None of it feels like a chore.
I also appreciate his writing style. It’s conversational, fun, and clearly directed at a specific audience. One of the things I talk about in my Portfolio Writing Workbook is how to focus on your audience and write specifically to them.
Often we try to show how intelligent we are by writing in a really formal and complex way. It’s human nature, but it’s not the best way to connect with your audience. Using a lot of jargon or talking about concepts that the average person isn’t familiar with can be a turnoff. This is especially true if you’re targeting potential clients. Don’t make your reader work too hard to understand you!
Your audience needs to easily see and feel what makes your work special. Beyond the work just looking good, you need to guide them in understanding it by explaining why you made the choices you did in your projects. That way, they’ll understand the value you bring and see your credibility.
So if potential clients are your main audience, I recommend taking a closer look at Tony’s site. It’s a great example of how designers can connect in a personal, fun, and easy-to-understand way.
What stood out for you during this 30-second scroll? I’d love to know what you like best about Tony’s site!
